Shalini Balasundaram is back with another venture after Inai & Geethaiyin Radhai. The movie, slated to release on August 16th have already shared two teasers and a trailer, setting itself nice for a final marketing push.
The trailer starts off with Shalini’s voice, describing Karthik. "Apdithaan yen kaathal kathe aaramichichu”, she says as series of scenes flashes infront of our eyes. "Yet another love story is up for screening," we tell ourselves.
At this time, If you can get past the sharp, highly saturated visual from the following snippets of scenes and focus on the dialogues, you would have been convinced that it is indeed a triangle love story. We make this assumptions based on the proceedings on the trailer.
We reach the halfway point of the trailer and the mood shifts, we see Irfan Zaini’s character slapping Shalini’s and mouths possibly the dialogue of the year:
“I’m removing you from the family Whatsapp group”," he says (seemingly) in an angry tone.
This is followed by few scenes of men robbing jewellery and we now realise that snatch thieves, (a theme we also previously saw in Vedigundu Pasanga) is a subplot of the story. This is followed with more cringe worthy scenes that includes Shalini covered in blood being rushed to the hospital.
Having watched this, we sincerely hope that Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey has blanketed their main theme well with their skeletal story. With every story, there's a responsibility to stage it with the right screenplay.
Overall, this seems to be a very "colourful" movie with a moral message. Since the theme is very similar to Vedigundu Pasanga, it is likely that the audience will make a comparison. Hopefully TPT makes better justice to the theme.
In terms of technicality, it Is in our sincerest wish that the team understand the ideas behind colorings that are done in a movie. A movie is not a colouring book, and the ability to paint a film shouldn't give anyone the rights to make a frame like the example shown below:
Malaysian cinema has continuously suffered in the past by movies (though boasting decent technical qualities) lacking in a solid story. Can TPT change this?
We cross our fingers.
Thirudathey Papa Thirudathey, is out in cinemas on 16th August 2018.
We'll be waiting with bated breath.
